Bible Quizzing
MACSA Bible Quizzing is
available at both the "Jr. High" and "Sr. High" levels. The two levels
quiz somewhat differently with Jr. High quizzing in teams of five and
Sr. High quizzing in teams of three.
Students are expected to memorize Bible chapters in their entirety and then to be able to answer a variety of types of questions on the passage. Students sit on special chair pads and jump up as soon as they know the answer. The quiz master can tell from a light on an electronic device who stood up first. (It's sort of like ringing in on Jeopardy.) Teams get points for each correct answer and can lose points for incorrect answers. Bonus points are given if a student "quizzes out" by getting a certain number of questions correct in a quiz.
Each quizzing event, or quiz-a-thon, consists of multiple quizzes against other schools belonging to the MACSA organization. Last year about 500 quizzers from 35 different schools participated. There are three regular quiz-a-thons and one invitational quiz-a-thon during the season and the season ends with a three day quizzing retreat.
